Master's Degree Learning Objectives

KU’s Department of Curriculum & Teaching is committed to producing teachers who foster high academic achievement in all students, including learners with diverse racial, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.  The Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction prepares master teachers, researchers, specialists, and leaders for all levels of education.

As a student enrolled in the 30 credit hour program (thesis/project), you will develop a portfolio demonstrating your personal perspectives and competencies related to national educational standards.  As a student enrolled in the 36 credit hour program (comprehensive exam), you will complete an examination demonstrating the same perspectives and competencies.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the relationship of content and content-specific pedagogy
  • Provide multiple explanations and instructional strategies for all students to learn
  • Apply the ability to critique research and theories related to pedagogy and learning
  • Convey an in-depth knowledge of research-based instructional strategies and technologies
