Reading Specialist Endorsement Program at KU
The Reading Specialist Endorsement Program* at the University of Kansas School of Education is designed for individuals interested in studying reading research, instruction and assessment with and without pursuing state licensure as a reading specialist.
Teachers who choose to focus their graduate studies in reading will be better prepared to provide excellent instruction to students in the classroom and in intervention/remediation settings (e.g. Title I Reading). Those who choose to pursue the state license as a reading specialist will receive instruction in classroom and intervention/remediation settings as well as in leadership and professional development in reading at the school and district levels.
Benefits of the program include:
- Licensure-focused Outcome - Graduates can apply for reading specialist licensure endorsement from the state of Kansas.
- Program Reputation - KU’s Reading Specialist Licensure Endorsement Program option is offered through the KU School of Education, which recently ranked 8th in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Public Education Schools.
- Nationally-accredited Program - The KU School of Education is accredited under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards through the CAEP Accreditation System.
*This academic program satisfies the requirements for the reading specialist teaching licensure endorsement in Kansas, but does not fulfill the requirements needed to complete a Master's degree.
