At KU students are admitted to Graduate Studies through the Graduate Division of one of the schools or colleges. Admission requirements vary from department to department and from school to school. Students will not receive graduate credit without having been accepted by a specific department or program. If you have questions regarding your application, please contact the Department of Curriculum & Teaching.
Applicants seeking consideration for admission must submit the following requirement documents:
- A COMPLETED GRADUATE APPLICATION form submitted online including non-refundable application fee. Apply online at the KU Graduate Application site.
- ONE OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT of all your undergraduate work including your degree conferral and any graduate work you have completed. Should your undergraduate GPA be between 2.5 - 2.75, you also need to include a letter confirming one year of full-time professional experience in addition to the letters of reference or an official transcript with at least 20 hours of graduate work and a minimum GPA of 3.0. A copy of your transcript (considered unofficial) may be uploaded with your application for review purposes, but admission decisions cannot be processed without receipt of the official transcript from each institution attended. (Official transcripts from an international university must include an English translation of all documents in addition to the official transcript in the original language, or documentation that the University’s instruction is in English. Applicants who graduated from a college or university in China must also include official Chinese and English versions of their diplomas and certificates.)
- THREE LETTERS OF REFERENCE from people who can comment on your ability to complete a master's program of study -- not character references. The persons listed as references on your application will be sent an electronic notice when you submit your application. The notice includes a link to the reference form and allows a letter to be uploaded with the reference form.
- A CAREER GOAL STATEMENT and a RESUME.
Please note: Meeting minimum admission standards does not guarantee admission to the program.
Regular admission requires a bachelor’s degree and a grade-point average (GPA) of at least a B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited institution, like KU, or a foreign university with substantially equivalent bachelor’s degree requirements.
If you are an international applicant, we strongly encouraged you to complete the application process well in advance of these deadlines, in order to ensure adequate time for processing of visa-related paperwork. The graduate admissions committee will make selections when all support documents have been received.
