Biography —
Connie Shui-Yi Chow directs the Jayhawk Flex MSE Secondary STEM Education program. She is a faculty member for the Secondary STEM program, and for the Joint Education Institute, a collaboration between KU and Zhejiang Normal University, with a focus on STEM pedagogy.
She is a molecular biologist by training, a social entrepreneur by accident and a skeptical optimist in practice. An educator at heart, her effort in the last 20 years has been focused on learning to create intellectually challenging, justice-oriented and joyful learning and mentoring spaces for students and educators, internationally and in the US, by partnering with public schools and universities, community organizations and industry, through research and praxis.
Immediately prior to joining KU, Connie facilitated and refined a competency-based, equity-focused M.Ed. program for future science and math educators seeking licensure, as part of a team that also designed an M.Ed. program rooted in belonging, innovation and design.
Connie holds a joint appointment at the Center for Certification and Competency-based Education (C3BE).
